My challenge piece uses Elmer's Caulk transfer and well as Lazertran transfer combined with oil painting. This is a 11"x14" hand stretched canvas..I painted the background in a thin oil and turpentine wash and let it dry thoroughly before beginning. The images with the printing are lazertran transfers I applied using pure turpentine to melt the Lazertran in to the oil primed canvas ...the flag is a toner copy image that I applied using Elmer's silicone caulk..as well as the silhouettes of the solders...the soldiers were then over painted with a thin black oil glaze. This piece was commissioned by a psychiatrist at the VA hospital for his office.Renée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-81531776094846940472009-08-05T13:37:00.002-05:002009-08-05T13:41:47.298-05:00Melange Challenge Archetype Angel<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 293px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SnnSO9sBPlI/AAAAAAAAAP4/0E0uW2MxWi4/s400/angelarchetype2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5366551585507851858" />
this weeks challenge word over on Melange blog for the Melange etsy team is "ARCHETYPE"

Title:"Angel Archetype"

According to Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, archetypes are innate universal psychic dispositions that form the substrate from which the basic themes of human life emerge. I remembered I had a an old London day travel ticket in my stash, then I pulled out some books and magazines from the late 60's to look for items to go with the theme. The image on the right is a gel image transfer from a 1969 Time magazine regarding travel to London, the girl is Twiggy, I know all the boomers remember her, her image is from a book I had from 1966, the stamped birds are a reference to the 60's when girls were called 'birds'.a vintage button and other stamped images complete this piece. After completing it and studying it for a while I realized it looks very much like collaged I did in the 60's......the more things change the more they remain the same.

Visit the melange blog for the weekly prompt, then create a mixed media piece and link to your piece in the blog comments. My husbands great-grandfather had a photography studio from the late 1890's through about 1942 located in Oxford,Ms and Holly Springs, Ms during those years. While going through his grandmother's estate in 1997 I found several old boxes of photos of unknown people. Some were studio photos others just snapshots. Naturally I save them..I have no idea who any of these people are except this first one..as it is signed on the back who this young girl was. Maybe you will enjoy using it in your collage, mixed media or altered art.

CLICK ON The IMAGE TO ENLARGE..the right click to save to your computer.Renée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-70319390108588088942009-04-13T23:47:00.004-05:002009-04-13T23:55:42.686-05:00New Work<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 253px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SeQXNwFaKNI/AAAAAAAAAM4/IG7NQIlWew4/s400/destination2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324406184472094930" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 281px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SeQW3USrUvI/AAAAAAAAAMw/X6JCfaKFSY8/s400/memLiveFsmaller.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324405799054430962" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 329px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SeQWWtg-nPI/AAAAAAAAAMo/mZEqWPaA5qc/s400/earthtonesflowersLight2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324405238889618674" />
finally completed all the current custom orders..now working on some fauve floral and landscape paintings and also working on my mixed media and collage art which I LOVE..have made a huge mess with everything strewn about with the mixed media art..I have a LOT of vintage books, photos, papers, elements..a LOT.LOL

A Fauve floral in acrylics 16"x20"
on etsy FauveStudio shop

Also two new mixed media/collage paintings in my other etsy shop FauveBohemianRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-89017589018819105952009-04-11T01:18:00.005-05:002009-04-11T01:23:16.540-05:00Fauve Landscape # 7<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 290px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SeA2wYM1UnI/AAAAAAAAAMg/GIklqEhxnZk/s400/fauvelanmat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323314964309824114" />
Click on image to view larger.

New acrylic fauve landscape on watercolor paper matted to 16"x20" in an beveled black mat.

Now on etsyRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-35142681027831231612009-03-26T22:20:00.004-05:002009-03-26T22:26:58.474-05:00Remember 35<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/ScxHb6aPJVI/AAAAAAAAAMY/pVYoHJMIUw8/s400/35.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317703804879054162" />
A new mixed media collage painting ,part of my Ancestors Series. this one is inspired by my mother who was born in 1935.

For sale on etsyRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-84963410962352599702009-03-26T03:05:00.006-05:002009-03-26T03:13:07.055-05:00Under a Dancing Star<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 293px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/Scs4PekGvaI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/EUI8JHLEgvQ/s400/underadancingstar1smallersize.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317405623594696098" />

A new original mixed media collage painting using vintage pages from a book titled Under a Dancing Star. Being universal and innate, their influence can be detected in the form of myths, symbols, rituals and instincts of human beings. Archetypes are components of the collective unconscious and serve to organize, direct and inform human thought and behavior.

An original abstract expressionist painting inspired by Carl Jung. In my previous career as a psychiatric RN I worked with a well known psychiatrist who lived and breathed Carl Jung. I find my previous work still heavily influences my paintings

For sale in my etsy shopRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-87938966029585212672009-03-12T00:42:00.002-05:002009-03-12T00:46:30.992-05:00Deckard Farm<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 290px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SbihoE9BbkI/AAAAAAAAALo/d8lgTJ0430g/s400/Treelandscape1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312173470380027458" />
Size 12" x 16"

Style:Expressionist

A new original expressionist landscape painting in acrylics.

Now on EtsyRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-68464274807652371292009-02-05T23:32:00.002-06:002009-02-05T23:37:23.102-06:00Spring In The Mountains<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 311px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SYvMCf8zXOI/AAAAAAAAALg/-7LW1S1VYws/s400/fantasyland1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299553729839848674" />

CLICK ON IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW

Size 14" x 18"

Style:Expressionist

A new original expressionist landscape painting with a spring theme.

For sale on etsy

Or my web siteRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-83901033425231693682009-02-02T18:53:00.002-06:002009-02-02T18:56:00.547-06:00Sun Over Lafayette<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 283px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SYeWC1qWkrI/AAAAAAAAALY/K9NFOLznIPk/s400/expland1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298368462133301938" />
Title: Sun Over Lafayette

Series: Southern Landscape Series
Size 16" x 12"

Style:Abstract,Expressionist, Modern, Contemporary

A new original expressionist landscape painting direct from my studio.

For sale on Etsy

Or my web siteRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-72236328170458888862009-02-01T16:07:00.005-06:002009-02-01T16:15:45.816-06:00Color Pop New Abstract Painting<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SYYdxobKxqI/AAAAAAAAALI/nvRhKS2-LZY/s400/circleswhole1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297954750150133410" />

Size 36" x 24"

Style:Abstract,Expressionist, Modern, Contemporary

now for sale on etsyRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6425108317662508998.post-87515746771801332952009-01-30T14:32:00.001-06:002009-01-30T14:35:31.621-06:00Field Of Poppies<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 318px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s9y_Q_WDlC0/SYNkWQ8H_YI/AAAAAAAAALA/stB1z5fpc7s/s400/il_fullxfull.54216540.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297187920384884098" />
Dimensions: 8"x10"

This is is a small expressionist landscape executed in acrylics on canvas covered wood panel.

For Sale on EtsyRenée Gandyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00967711191791304735noreply@blogger.com0
